KESTREL'S MILESTONES
Kestrel Trust was established in Neuchâtel, Switzerland in 1983.
Its founder Walton Imrie, a South African portfolio manager who was originally based in London, moved to Switzerland in order to expand his business activities and offer trustee services to his mainly South African client base. In order to provide financial services of the highest quality, he promptly enlisted the support of highly qualified persons, including that of Maurice Emery.
In time Kestrel Trust grew to become a provider of Trust and Company Management services enjoying a reputation for quality, efficiency and practical support.
Our management team is multi-disciplinary and this range of accounting, legal and financial skills enables us to provide solutions which take into account the varied needs of international families.
Many of the investors and entrepreneurs who were with Kestrel Trust at the beginning of our journey remain close to us today. As their businesses have evolved and families have grown, Kestrel Trust has been a constant at their side, providing them with expert support to meet both their and their families’ changing needs.
In 2023 Kestrel Trust secured its FINMA trustee licence. This much sought after accreditation places Kestrel Trust within the small and exclusive group of trustees that hold this licence in Switzerland. This accomplishment demonstrates the company’s drive for excellence, discipline, respect for financial regulation requirements and irreproachable corporate governance. It also attests to our experience and expertise in the trust sector, undeniably creating added value for our clients.
Kestrel Trust is authorized as a trustee within the meaning of the Financial Institutions Act (FinIA) and subject to prudential supervision by SO-FIT, Supervisory Organisation for Financial Intermediaries & Trustees. SO-FIT is a self-regulatory organisation authorised by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) to supervise financial intermediaries which are subject to Article 2 para. 3 of the Swiss Federal Act on Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing in the Financial Sector (MLA). Kestrel Trust is an active member of the Swiss Association of Trust Companies (SATC).
